Highlight: Walhalla Wanderweg

Over the last couple of years, Walhalla has been leaning into one of it’s taglines “Where the mountains meet Main Street”. Walk around downtown Walhalla and that tagline will become more than a sign, it’ll be a real feeling.

Founded in the mid 1800s, Walhalla sits in the Northwestern corner of South Carolina. Steeped in South Carolina, United States, and Native American history, Walhalla boasts a charming historic downtown, numerous natural amenities, and is one of the closest SC cities to the borders of both North Carolina and Georgia. It is inherently connected with the outdoors, lying at the foothills of the Appalachian mountains.

Led by Main Street Walhalla and the City of Walhalla, this community has recently focused intensely on new ways to connect their community in even greater ways with each other and with their surroundings.

Enter the Walhalla Wanderweg.

German for “foot path” - a nod to the town’s German roots, the 3-mile trail circling the historic downtown is just about to kick off with the construction of Phase 1.

Highlighting the positive impacts this project will bring to the community, we spent some time with community leaders taking charge of this historic project.

Learn more about the trail and what it means for Walhalla, at the video below.

A big thank you to Libby Imbody (Main Street Walhalla - email) for coordinating this project!
